I Don’t Have an Issue with the Luos – Moses Kuria

Moses Kuria, a Gatundu South Member of Parliament, has been under fire in recent days for a speech he made during a campaign rally criticizing President Uhuru Kenyatta for backing ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential quest.

Kuria argued that by backing the ODM supremo, the president is going against his father’s wishes.

The controversial lawmaker said that the president was breaking a supposed 1969 pledge prohibiting the Mt Kenya community from electing a leader from a non-circumcising group.

According to him, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, the founding President, administered the oath to the Mt Kenya community.

“Uhuru is going against his father’s wish by supporting Raila Odinga and he knows what Kenyatta said. We even took an oath never to support Raila for the presidency and that is why we are backing Ruto,” Kuria said on Friday.

Kenyans, on the other hand, were divided at his sentiments, with some accusing him of being tribal, something he has denied.

Kuria went on to say that his Gatundu speech was aimed at urging community leaders to keep their promises.

He accused the elders of double speak while advising the community on who to vote for and who not to vote for.

“My only question is; why is it that when you are in a good relationship with a certain group of people, you tell us that they are good and when things go sour, you give us an oath to take?” posed the firebrand MP.

“Me as a person I don’t have an issue with anybody including the Luos. My issue is reneging on promises and agreements.”

Kuria is eyeing the Kiambu gubernatorial seat on a Chama cha Kazi party ticket.

He joined the crowded race in February after his return from Dubai where he was receiving treatment.
