Mt Kenya Sidelined in Bipartisan Talks – Wamuchomba Claims

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba alleges that Mt Kenya is being sidelined in the ongoing bipartisan talks.

The former Kiambu Woman Rep said people from the vote-rich region were not given a chance to air their opinions before the National Dialogue Committee.

“All those who went to the National Dialogue Committee to take proposals, they came from all parts of Kenya but none was from Mt Kenya, does that mean we don’t have problems?” posed Wamuchomba.

According to the legislator, Mt Kenya does not stand to gain anything should the talks lead to a handshake between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

She claimed that Dr Ruto has not been forthcoming about the details of the ongoing talks. This she says, is exactly what retired President Uhuru Kenyatta did before he and Raila shook hands.

“We kept asking Uhuru to give us more details of their talks with Raila and just like President Ruto, he kept saying he would not allow Raila into his administration. That is the route Ruto is taking us,” she said.

Wamuchomba wondered why deputy president Rigathi Gachagua was not part of the delegation that traveled to Nyanza with the head of state.

Dr Ruto was in Nyanza for a four-day working tour.

This comes amid speculations of a rift between the president and his deputy. However, Gachagua has dismissed the claims saying that his relationship with his boss is okay.

“President William Ruto and I are joined at the hip. We talk on a daily basis. My relationship with the President is top-notch,” Gachagua said.
