Kajiado Governor Ole Lenku Dumps Jubilee for ODM

Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has switched to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party.

During a delegates conference at Chungwa House on Thursday, Ole Lenku said the decision to move camps was taken after lengthy consultations with the electorate.

He also announced that he will compete for the governorship once again in the August elections.

“Today on my behalf of as the governor of Kajiado and the spokesman of the MAA nation we have officially moved to ODM where I am going to run for my gubernatorial seat in the coming election,” he said.

“I wish therefore to say that I have heard the voice of my people, I have taken their instructions and I have together with them moved to ODM. We believe in our larger family the Azimio la Umoja that will take Baba the 5th to statehouse.”

Similarly, the governor affirmed his belief in Azimio la Umoja’s muscle and its future potential.

“Our taking this decision is to strengthen the Azimio la Umoja aspirations of bringing Kenyans together being championed by the President and Raila Odinga,” he said.

After meeting the defectors, Raila expressed confidence in securing the presidential seat ahead of the polls with the now-bolstered team.

“Tuna furaha sana leo hukaribisha viongozi kutoka kaunti ya Kajiado. Kajiado na sisi ni kitu kimoja tumekuwa kajiado miaka mingi zaidi. Kwa hivyo tarehe nane mwaka huu baba atakuwa mwanajeshi mkuu,” said the former prime minister.

Also in the governorship race is former governor David Nkedianye and former economics lecturer Dr Racheal Gitonga.

Other aspirants include include Peris Tobiko, Katoo ole Metito and Francis Meja.

The trio is set to battle it out for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
