MC Jessy: DP Ruto Ally Rigged Me Out

Jasper Muthomi, a comedian-turned-politician also known as MC Jessy, has revealed why he decided to run as an independent for the South Imenti parliamentary seat in the August elections.

Jessy made the move after failing to clinch the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

Mwiti Kathaara was handed the direct ticket to run for the parliamentary seat in April by the party led by Deputy President William Ruto.

The aspiring MP claims he was devastated when DP Ruto advised him to withdraw his candidacy for Kathaara, on grounds that the latter was the most popular choice among locals.

Jessy, however, believes that certain UDA members undermined his standing in Meru County by telling DP Ruto that Kathaara was the most well-liked candidate there.

This, according to MC Jessy, was the main reason UDA bypassed him.

“I was not tricked; somebody lied to the Deputy President about Jessy in South Imenti. He was not depending on his own knowledge. The Deputy President was depending on his soldiers so he assigned people to help him in getting candidates in all the areas,” said Jessy.

“Of course not every person that he trusted with the responsibility was honest, especially men. The person there was not honest to the DP. He went and lied to him about Jessy.”

Jessy claims that after losing out on the UDA ticket, DP Ruto offered him a position in his presidential campaign team, but he turned it down because it conflicted with his desire to help the people of South Imenti.

“That is not my vision, my dream is not there, my dream is in South Imenti. If I took the job how would I have helped the people of South Imenti?” posed the funnyman.

Later, during a face-to-face conversation with DP Ruto, Jessy notified the leader of the Kenya Kwanza alliance that he would run for the seat as an independent candidate.

“After some deliberation with DP Ruto, I told him that I wanted to go it alone and he wished me all the best,” said Jessy.

“When we met, he asked me to calm down and that he had seen that he had been lied to,” he added.

Sources indicate that Meru gubernatorial candidate Mithika Linturi was responsible for selecting the strongest candidates in the county.

The former Churchill Show comedian also claimed that Kathaara bought the party ticket because he was sure he would lose in the primaries.

“Even the guy who got the ticket,  paid for it because I know that he bought it, had doubts that he would get it. He almost decamped to another party,” Jessy alleged.

If he still supports Dr Ruto’s presidential bid, Jessy said he will work with whoever forms the next government.
