Waiguru Claims Ngirici’s Candidacy Is Sponsored by State

Governor Anne Waiguru of Kirinyaga has said that Woman Rep Wangui Ngirici, her rival running against her as an independent for governor, is secretly a member of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance.

The governor claimed that comments made by the vice chairman of the Jubilee Party, David Murathe, claiming that the coalition has two candidates in Kirinyaga, Senator Charles Kibiru and Ms Ngirici, are a blatant indicator that the woman representative is a member of Raila Odinga’s political party.

Waiguru further asserted that the state is funding the two candidates.

On Monday, the county boss remarked during a gathering in Karaini village in Kirinyaga Central that independent candidates should not be afraid to back a certain presidential candidate.

At the same time, she maintained that political parties form governments and that an independent governor would find it difficult to push for State projects in the county.

Kirinyaga, according to the former Devolution CS, is a UDA stronghold.

This she said as she urged the locals to vote for the party’s candidates for MCA and president.

As governor for the past five years, she said that her development record speaks for itself, and that anyone who has nothing to show for their time in office should not be re-elected.

Speaking to locals in Gathigiri, Mwea, Waiguru promised that the UDA manifesto would solve issues facing rice farmers, including the importation of rice and the provision of subsidised fertilizer.

Additionally, she criticized her rivals, accusing some of slandering her and sending thugs to disrupt her rallies.

She urged them to sell their agenda and demonstrate how they had benefited the community.

On the day of the election, she asked every registered voter to get up very early and exercise their civic responsibility.

Ngirici left the DP William Ruto-led outfit late last year following the entry of Waiguru.

But the County MP has insisted that her departure had nothing to do with the county chief’s entry.

In January, the legislator said that apart from the bullying, she was also body-shamed by a female colleague.

“I was humiliated and body-shamed by the likes of Aisha Jumwa but Ruto never uttered a word,” Ngirici told the Standard then.

This, according to the Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirant, was why she could not return to UDA even if they offered her a direct ticket to contest for the seat.

“For this reason, I can never go back to UDA even if I was given a direct ticket,” she said.
