We Don’t Slap Women – DP Ruto Responds To CS Wamalwa’s Slapping Allegations

Deputy President William Ruto has responded to Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa’s slapping allegations.

Speaking in Trans Nzoia on Tuesday, the second-in-command said they (Kalenjin community) do not slap women.

He chided the former Devolution CS who is affiliated with the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance for speaking ill of him yet he had appointed him to government.

“We respect women. Mwambieni aache mdomo mrefu kutoka hapa hadi South Africa,” said the DP.

The CS on Saturday claimed that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential flagbearer came close to slapping him in 2018.

The former Devolution CS claimed that the DP was angry with him for not asking for his permission to bring a Western Kenya delegation to the House on the Hill.

According to Wamalwa, the presidential hopeful was so angry with him that he demanded for his resignation.

“Ruto was furious and demanded my resignation. He wanted me to explain why I had taken leaders to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta without his permission” the CS said.

He also told Kakamega residents that the DP took issue with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s appointment of Interior CS Fred Matiang’i as Chief Minister.

Dr Ruto, Wamalwa revealed, confronted the bullish CS over the July 2019 appointment that saw the latter handed more government responsibilities.

Even though he has forgiven the DP, Wamalwa asserted that he (Ruto) cannot be trusted with Kenya’s leadership.

“I have forgiven the DP for the embarrassment he caused me. The incidents show that he cannot be trusted with leadership,” Wamalwa said.

The slapping allegations against the DP come a week after a leaked audio clip indicated that he (Ruto) almost smacked his boss.

Dr Ruto told Kikuyu elders gathered at his official residence in Karen that he contemplated slapping Uhuru who was about to give up the presidency after the Supreme Court annulled their win 2017.

In his defense, however, the DP on Friday told KTN News that it was just but a figure of speech.

He also stated that this only showed that he was President Uhuru’s true friend.

“Honestly, that is figurative speech. Nobody can slap the president. That was a figure of speech,” he told KTN News.

“The point I was trying to make to this audience is that the president was almost giving up. I told him you are not going to do something silly like that.”

On Friday, the outgoing head of state said that should his deputy have slapped him, he would have turned the other cheek if it meant peace prevailed.

He also affirmed that he was indeed thinking about going home. This he said, was for the sake of the country.

“If they had slapped me over power, I would have given them the other cheek to slap. Yes, I wanted to go back to Ichaweri because I couldn’t compare power with bloodshed,” Uhuru said.

“These seats we occupy (Presidency) are not more valuable than human life. I had said yes, I will not see more people lose lives because of a seat.”
