Presidential Hopeful Mwaure Writes to 15 Countries Demanding Return of Stolen Cash

Presidential candidate for the Agano Party David Mwaure has written to 15 nations and the UN requesting that they return billions of Kenyan shillings that politicians have hidden in offshore accounts.

Mwaure begged the nations; US, UK, China, Russia, UAE, Mauritius, Seychelles, Jordan, Taiwan, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe to assist Kenya repatriate all the stolen money, citing it as one of the reasons the nation’s economy was in trouble.

The presidential candidate called for an international probe into the situation in letters copied to the UN Secretary General.

Mwaure claims that corruption is to blame for Kenya’s problems including high unemployment rates, high cost of living, a soaring public wage bill, and a growing foreign debt.

“The nation and people of Kenya are currently undergoing a lot of economic suffering ranging from the high cost of living, high cost of essential foodstuffs and debt,” the letter read in part.

“It is common knowledge that a lot of development funds and wealth illegally obtained in Kenya has been stashed abroad in both official and unofficial tax havens.”

He warned that the investigations would be expanded to other nations and pleaded with the listed nations and the United Nations to return any money that could have been stashed there.

During his manifesto launch early this month, Mwaure said Kenyans have been patiently waiting for the country’s release from the grip of corruption for close to 60 years.

The ordained pastor vowed to pursue illegally obtained wealth that has been hidden overseas and, in his opinion, is undermining Kenya’s productivity and development.

He said the amount “exceeds the country’s annual budget of Sh3.3 trillion by almost 10 times”.

The cash, he said is enough to repay loans from the Chinese government.

“Of the four presidential candidates, two of them have fought in Kenya’s army [government] before. They have had opportunity to slay the giant — the Goliath called corruption,” he said.

“The other one, who is more of a joker than a leader, is in the intelligence, because one never retires from intelligence.

He added: “Consider the same leaders that are spearheading and leading my competition, whether they are doing so from the front, the middle or the back room, are the same who were in our government 20 years ago.”

He said that funds recovered from fraudulent overseas accounts would be used to finance projects under his government.

He declared that a Stolen Wealth Recovery and Repatriation Commission will be established by his government.

He explained that in order to focus on its goals, the panel will use the reports from previous anti-corruption task groups.

“In about 2017-18, it was widely reported by reputable international groups and organisations that wealthy Kenyans were hiding more than Sh15 trillion in foreign banks.

“This again is twice the foreign or Chinese loan of Sh8.2 trillion,” he said.

Mwaure has also pledged to revive the Pandora papers in which President Uhuru Kenyatta is mentioned.

The head of state and his family members are said to have a ton of money stashed in offshore accounts.
