According to insider sources, the vehicle was set on fire by an unidentified group after the driver was attacked at the Thiiti bridge on the Mikinduri-Mulika road.

This came a few days after Philipe Sadja, the former secretary general of the Chama cha Uzalendo (CCU) Party, had his car set on fire.

No one was hurt, according to a police report, when the car caught fire on Thursday night at Sadja’s Miwani residence in Machakos County.

The CCU Sec Gen claimed that at night, unidentified people accessed his home claiming to be from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

“If I have done something wrong, I should be called to the DCI or OCS to record a statement and not send people claiming to be DCI officers at night,” Sadja said.

Elsewhere, ODM Kisii gubernatorial candidate Simba Arati was compelled to make a statement after allegations surfaced that one person had been killed when one of his campaign vehicles ploughed through a crowd in Bobasi.

Arati pointed out that the accusations were bogus attempts by his competitors to thwart his campaign to secure the governor’s seat before polls open on Tuesday.

He also urged his supporters to keep the peace both during and after the campaign.

As the nation prepares for elections, Kenya Police personnel organized a security operation to prevent the cyclical threats of violence.

On the other hand, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) sent out 250 monitors to watch how the police behaved during the season.

“All IPOA monitors will be easily identified by IPOA staff badges, IEBC observer badges and their branded attire,” said IPOA.

“Members of the public are encouraged to report to IPOA any case of misconduct or commendations of the police during the election period through toll free number 1559.”
