Ali Roba’s UDM Party Ditches Azimio for Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza

United Democratic Movement (UDM) party, an affiliate member of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance, has joined President-elect William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza alliance.

Azimio is led by ODM leader Raila Odinga and his handshake partner, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee Party.

Mandera senator-elect Ali Roba led his elected party members in a meeting held at DP Ruto’s Karen residence.

UDM party has 8 MPs, 2 Governors and 2 Senators.

“We salute the United Democratic Movement (UDM) leadership for abandoning Azimio La Umoja and joining Kenya Kwanza,” said Dr Ruto.

The party, which he founded last year, shocked many by capturing more than 35 ward representatives nationwide.

Adan Khalif, the outgoing speaker of Mandera bagged the governor’s seat while Mohamud Ali of Marsabit retained his.

The party also won the Wajir Senate seat through Abass Sheikh and the Mandera Woman Representative seat through Umulkheir Kassaim.

In the National Assembly, the party won the Mandera North seat through Bashir Abdullahi, Mandera South (Abdi Wahab Harow), Mandera West (Adan Haji) and Banisa (Kullow Maalim).

Additionally, it won the parliamentary races in Laisamis and Lungalunga.
