Jubilee Picks Ex-Embakasi North MP Candidate Wangoro For Nairobi Speaker Position

Harrison Wangoro Mwangi has been chosen by the Jubilee party to represent it in the race for Nairobi County Assembly speaker.

Wangoro ran for the Embakasi North parliamentary seat but lost to a UDA contender.

Jeremiah Kioni, the party’s secretary general, announced his appointment on Thursday at Jubilee Pangani headquarters.

“The Jubilee party wishes to nominate Wangoro Mwangi as the Nairobi County speaker,” Kioni said.

In 2013, Wangoro submitted an application and was selected as a TNA candidate for the office of speaker of the National Assembly, however he later resigned in favor of Justin Muturi.

In the recently completed election in Nairobi County, Azimio la Umoja won majority of the seats with Jubilee bagging 6, ODM 35, and Wiper party 4.

Kenya Kwanza had 36 seats with President-elect William Ruto’s UDA getting 35 seats and Moses Kuria’s Chama cha Kazi winning one seat.

Two candidates were elected as independent candidates.

Elections have not yet been held in Utawala and Mukuru Kwa Njenga.

Wangoro told a local daily that the Azimio leadership had approved of Jubilee’s assumption of the speaker role.

“I’m competent enough for the position of the speaker and I will deliver to the people of Nairobi because of the management skills I poses,” Wangoro told the Star.

Mark Muriithi Mwenje, the newly elected MP for Embakasi West, acknowledged that the Jubilee party wrote to affiliate parties to endorse their candidate.

He claimed that the decision was reached after Esther Passaris retained her seat as the woman representative and Edwin Sifuna was elected to the Senate. They were both ODM candidates.

“I’m in support of the Jubilee’s candidate and have confidence in him and his ability to lead the assembly,” Mureithi said.
