South Africa’s Malema Urges Raila to Accept Defeat

South Africa’s Julius Malema has once again urged Raila Odinga, the Azimio presidential candidate, to accept defeat.

The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party has warned the ODM leader not to be remembered as someone who yearned for power.

Raila has unsuccessfully sought to be Kenya’s president five times.

“Mr. Odinga must humble himself and form part of a government that will address the challenges confronting the people of Kenya, and not allow history to remember him as an individual who was desperate for power, at the cost of the progress of his nation,” Malema tweeted.

For the second time, the outspoken South African politician urged Raila to resign from politics and put an end to his campaign.

Raila contested the results of the presidential election and pointed to irregularities and discrepancies in the final tally.

William Ruto, the deputy president, received 7.1 million votes against Raila’s 6.9 million, the IEBC announced on August 15.

In an effort to have Ruto’s victory overturned, Raila and his Azimio la Umoja One Kenya militia delivered a lorry full of paperwork to the Supreme Court on Monday.

President-elect Ruto has pledged to accept the court’s ruling on the petition.

Malema urged the ODM chief to relinquish his irrational desire to take over the reins of power.

“We call on Mr. Raila Odinga to accept the elections outcome, and not form part of a tradition of causing instability, and uncertainty on African governance,” Malema said.

He also revealed that he had spoken to Dr Ruto and congratulated him for his win.
