“We had the strategies that won over those of our competitors. But I am the first to now extend an olive branch so that we work for the betterment of Mombasa,” Mr Nassir said.

“It is laughable that I was branded a Joho project. Let this be a lesson to future generations that in the coast humility is key in this politics,” he added.

By winning 23 of the county’s 30 wards and five of the county’s six constituencies, the former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho asserted that ODM had disproven its detractors and demonstrated that the coastal city remained the party stronghold.

Mr Joho’s deputy, Dr Kingi, earlier accepted defeat.
