Uhuru Would Have Won Third Term – Museveni’s Son Lights Up Twitter

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s son says he wishes retired President Uhuru Kenyatta had vied for a third term in office.

Taking to Twitter on Monday afternoon, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), said the former head of state would have easily clinched the seat.

“My only problem with my beloved big brother is that he didn’t stand for a third term. We would have won easily,” Muhoozi said.

Uhuru retired after serving two consecutive terms in office as is required by Law. He handed over power to his successor, William Ruto.

This, Muhoozi thought was a joke.

“Haha! I love my Kenyan relatives. Constitution? Rule of law? You must be joking! For us there is only the Revolution and you will soon learn about it,” he said.

In another tweet, he said it would not take him and his army more than two weeks to capture the capital, Nairobi.

“It wouldn’t take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture Nairobi,” he said, adding, “After our army captures Nairobi, where should I live? Westlands? Riverside?”

The National Resistance Movement, or NRM, has been Uganda’s dominant political force since Museveni took office in 1986.

In June 2021, Museveni named Muhoozi the army’s head of land forces.

It was Museveni’s second promotion of his son, who is now 49, in the army’s command structure in the last six months.

Muhoozi was in charge of the Special Forces Command (SFC), an elite guard unit that specializes in guarding the president and first family, prior to his appointment.

Since Muhoozi rose through the military ranks, many people in and outside of Uganda have come to regard him as the ideal successor to his father.

However, Museveni has denied grooming him to succeed him.

Muhoozi stated in May of this year that becoming president was never his goal.

“I have never dreamed about it! All I want and what we will struggle for and definitely achieve are the interests of our generation,” he said.
