Tiaty MP Kamket Threatens to Sue Jematia For Linking Him To Banditry

Tiaty MP William Kamket has threatened to sue Florence Jematia, Baringo Woman Representative, for allegedly making derogatory remarks.

According to reports, Ms Jematia made the statements in a viral video linking Mr Kamket to the banditry in the Baringo region.

The MP wants Ms Jematia to apologize for the aforementioned defamatory remarks.

The legislator says that on October 12 during a public meeting, Ms Jematia made statements that, in his opinion, were spiteful and exposed him to criticism and contempt from the public.

The legislator argues through lawyer Kipkoech Ngetich, that the aforementioned statements implied that he is to blame for the banditry threat in the unrest-plagued region of Rift Valley.

“Your pronouncements have not only lowered our clients reputation but also destroyed him completely as an internationally renowned journalist, respected legislator, bastion for the rights of the minority  and marginalized, husband leader and father,” the letter reads in part.

Mr Kamket has given the Woman Rep 48 hours to issue an apology against the slanderous words in the same kind and form that they were published.

If Ms Jematia does not apologize, Mr Kamket has threatened to file a defamation lawsuit against her.

“Our firm and mandatory instructions are therefore to demand, which we hereby do, that you admit liability for the defamatory actions on your part after which we shall deliberate on the quantum of damages,” continues the demand letter.

However, some Baringo citizens have already reacted publicly to the legal action taken against Jematia.

Mochongoi MCA Kipruto Kimosop posted in his Facebook page saying: “The Lioness has smoked him out. Jematia has our full Support.”

Kimosop said Baringo bandit attack victims shall present more than 100,000 signed affidavits in court if Jematia is apprehended.

“So courts should prepare enough gallery space for the victims we shall ferry to sit and follow the case of our Woman Rep Jematia, once tabled,” he added.

He said Jematia was speaking on behalf of residents who for many years have been terrified by the armed bandits.
