Nominated MP John Mbadi Elected Unopposed As PAC Chair

Nominated MP John Mbadi has been elected unopposed as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chair.

The former Suba South MP will be deputized by Butere MP Tindi Mwale.

In September, Embakasi North MP Babu Owino accused the Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of betrayal after he was denied the PAC chairmanship.

The former University of Nairobi (UoN) student leader claimed the chairmanship was handed to Mbadi, denying youthful leaders a chance to lead.

He tweeted: “ODM Party, so many youth and myself sacrificed a lot and used our resources in the party over the years, our pay is betrayal and blackmail . It is OK. Tomorrow is another day.”

He protested the move saying the chairmanship will be handed to the former Suba South MP “over his dead body”.

“@TheODMparty With Due respect why should Hon John Mbadi come down from the position of Majority leader to PAC chair which was reserved for me. This will not happen!!!Over my dead body…Young people must get their space.. it’s now or never . He has been rewarded through Nomination,” tweeted the legislator.

In response to Babu’s claims, the former minority leader in the National Assembly said he was not interested in the PAC chairmanship.

“I’m NOT interested in being the PAC chair, and I have NOT communicated anywhere about the same,” he said.

He added: “Those who are claiming that I have been offered the position clearly do not understand the parliamentary procedures. The membership of a committee are the ones that elect their chair and it’s across the board.”

Reports indicated that Mbadi was handed the seat on the PAC after he failed to cinch the minority leader position.

He apparently met with Raila at Serena Hotel and was assured of the PAC job.
