Polycarp Igathe Back at Tiger Brands After Nairobi Governor Loss

Former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Polycarp Igathe has landed a new role with Tiger Brands, a company based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Igathe who unsuccessfully vied on a Jubilee party ticket is going back to Tiger Brands, where he previously held the position of managing director of the company’s East Africa division. He starts effective December 1, 2022.

He left Tiger Brands for British oil company, Vivo Energy.

Igathe has significant commercial competence, as well as marketing, sales, strategy, and business leadership expertise from multi-geography leadership roles across Africa, said the South African corporation.

Igathe has worked with prestigious companies including; Coca-Cola, Kenya Breweries, Haco Industries Limited, and Equity Bank.

“I look forward to the diverse set of capabilities and knowledge of the continent that Polycarp will bring to driving the execution of our ambitious growth strategy for the Rest of Africa,” Tiger Brands CEO Noel Doyle said.

Igathe lost to United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) Johnson Sakaja in a hotly contested race.

The former Nairobi deputy governor garnered 573,516 votes against Sakaja’s 699,392.

In his concession speech, Igathe thanked his supporters as he congratulated the new county boss.

“I accept the decision of the people of Nairobi and thank all our supporters. The Governor of Nairobi is His Excellency Johnson Sakaja. Congratulations! God bless Kenya,” he wrote on Twitter.
