Sakaja Funded Azimio’s Kamukunji Rally – MCA Kiragu Alleges

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has been accused of facilitating the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party rally held at Kamukunji Grounds on Monday.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Nairobi County Assembly minority leader Anthony Kiragu claimed that the governor funded the rally.

The Ward Representative urged the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) elected county boss to declare his political stand.

Kiragu alleged that Sakaja on Sunday donated Charter Hall where members of the opposition held their strategy meetings.

“We are aware that he facilitated the planning of the Azimio meeting. He donated Charter Hall on Sunday afternoon where groups were meeting during the day to strategise, mobilise and do fundraising for that event,” he said.

The Waithaka Ward Rep also stated that the former Nairobi senator was weirdly quiet on the Azimio rally. He also alleged that the county government paid for the rally and that monies were collected at Sakaja’s private office.

During the rally, the opposition chief Raila Odinga said they do not recognize the Kenya Kwanza government as it was illegitimate.

Raila maintained that he won the August 2022 elections but the IEBC manipulated the polls in favour of William Ruto.

“We as Azimio reject the 2022 election results. We cannot and will not recognize the Kenya Kwanza regime and we consider the Kenya Kwanza government illegitimate. We don’t recognize Mr William Ruto as President of Kenya and we equally don’t recognize any officials in the office with him,” said the former prime minister.

He warned that there will be no elections in 2027 should the government fail to clean up the electoral agency and involve the people in the selection of new commissioners.

“We demand that the entire infrastructure and records of the 2022 elections at IEBC be made public and be audited by an impartial body.  A forensic audit of the IEBC results and servers is non-negotiable,” he said.

The opposition will hold another rally on Sunday at the Jacaranda Grounds.
