Nairobi UDA MCA Mugambi Claims Life In Danger Following Attack Outside City Hall

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) minority whip in the Nairobi County Assembly claims his life is in danger.

Mark Mugambi who also doubles as the Ward Representative for Umoja One made the claim on Thursday after he was attacked outside City Hall.

The Ward Rep told reporters that he was ambushed by goons at around 7.30 AM.

Mugambi alleged that his assailants were hired by someone he campaigned for in the August 2022 elections.

“I’m quite disturbed that someone I campaigned for can send goons to attack me for playing a role I was elected to play,” Mugambi said.

He stated that he received word about the planned attack on Wednesday but thought it was an empty threat.

“I ignored the report but today in the morning as I was about to enter the county assembly,  I met two boys in the company of others,” he continued.

“One of them hit me and another one tore my shirt and my smart watch disappeared.”

The legislator said the attack came two days after he criticized Governor Johnson Sakaja for attempting to initiate a truce between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

He maintained that he was not trying to fight Sakaja but was only carrying out his mandate.

He explained that, as a lawmaker, he will oversee the governor to ensure citizens receive services because Sakaja had chosen to include Azimio in his plans.

Mugambi criticized the governor, alleging that despite attending multiple meetings, he is yet to launch any projects.

“Last week he was in Naivasha with chief officers, this week the same chief officers are in Panari and over the weekend he has invited MCAs,” he said.

Earlier on in the week, minority leader Anthony Kiragu chided Sakaja for attempting to initiate a handshake between the two political bigwigs.

“We have heard the Governor saying he will facilitate a handshake between the President and Raila, yet he clearly knows Ruto’s stand on the issue,” said the Waithaka Ward Rep.

He also accused the governor of funding the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance’s rally held at the Kamukunji Grounds on Monday.
