Azimio Suspends Bipartisan Talks

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance has called off the bi-partisan talks over Kenya Kwanza’s failure to address its demands.

In a letter signed by the Committee’s co-chair Otiende Amollo, the talks have been suspended indefinitely.

According to Amollo, Kenya Kwanza has failed to co-sign and submit letters addressed to the IEBC CEO and the chairperson of the IEBC selection panel.

“We also note that you have not responded to the additional matters raised in the resolutions of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition parliamentary group Meeting forwarded to you,” said the lawmaker.

The letter is addressed to the Committee’s co-chair George Murugara and copied to the Azimio la Umoja principals and members of the committee.

“In the circumstances, it is our considered opinion that the appropriate action is to adjourn the talks sine die, in accordance with Clause 36 of the Framework Agreement, which we hereby invoke,” he added.

The opposition had on Tuesday given the government side until midnight to address issues raised during its Parliamentary Group meeting.

Minority leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi said the government had failed to address issues like the complete overhaul of the proposed Finance Bill, 2023, the opening of the election servers, and the high cost of living.

“Kenya Kwanza has until midnight Tuesday, otherwise, the talks will remain suspended,” he said.
