Azimio Unveils National Assembly, Senate Leadership

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance on Saturday unveiled its leadership both in the Senate and National Assembly.

The line-up was revealed at a news conference held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Memorial in Upper Hill, Nairobi, by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

At the National Assembly, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi will serve as the majority leader with Kathiani’s Robert Mbui as his deputy.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed was proposed for the majority whip position and will be deputized by nominated MP Sabina Chege.

In the senate where the coalition is down by one seat, it proposed Kilifi senator Stewart Madzayo as the leader of minority. He will be deputised by Kitui senator, Enock Wambua.

For the minority whip position, Azimio settled for Isiolo senator Fatuma Dullo. Her deputy will be Nairobi’s Edwin Sifuna.

Despite losing some of its members to President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza, the Azimio leadership has maintained that it has the majority of elected members in the National Assembly.

Kenya Kwanza is scheduled to announce its leadership in both Houses later today in Naivasha, where the president is presiding over a PG meeting.

Ruto’s group, just like Azimio asserts that they are the majority side after winning the speaker positions in both Houses of Parliament.

“I have heard our competitors trying to say they have numbers, if they cannot even raise a candidate for the Senate Speaker position what numbers do they have? There is no need to bring a contest where there is none,” Ruto said amid laughter on Friday.

However, the decision on which side has the majority lies with National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula.
