Blow to Embu Governor Aspirant Kivuti as Running Mate Joins Jubilee

Embu gubernatorial aspirant and Devolution Empowerment Party “Mbus” Chairman Lenny Kivuti has been dealt a blow after his running mate abandoned him.

His proposed deputy Emilio Kathuri ditched the Kiraitu Murungi-led outfit for Jubilee party.

Kathuri told the electorate in Embu town that he decamped because Kivuti had no capacity to clinch the county top seat.

In a surprising turn of events, Kathuri declared that he will be running for the Embu gubernatorial seat.

He urged Kivuti to prepare for a fierce battle.

Kathuri described ‘Mbus’ party as a vehicle that had developed mechanical problems hence his decision to get off.

“I alighted the BUS when I realised it was going to take us nowhere,” Kathuri said.

He recalled delivering a ton of votes especially from Manyatta, where he hails, asserting that he (Kivuti) will not be getting a single vote from the constituency.

Other candidates who are set to battle for Embu gubernatorial seat include Njagi Kumantha on a Democratic Party ticket, MP Cecily Mbarire and Manyatta MP John Muchiri who are both eyeing the UDA ticket.

Outgoing area governor Martin Wambora has said that he will back a candidate from Manyatta.

He, on the other hand, is gunning for the senate seat.

“I have meet with various Embu County grassroots leaders and I have heard from the electorate and and they have assured me of support in my senatorial bid as well growing Umoja na maendeleo party’s reach,” he said in February.

Also seeking the senate seat is former PS Lilian Omollo.
