Charlene Ruto: Office of the First Daughter is not Taxpayer-funded

President William Ruto’s daughter Charlene Ruto has broken silence on the Office of the First Daughter.

Most Kenyans had no idea the office existed until a video clip emerged on social media on Tuesday.

In the clip, Charlene was heard introducing members of her team, including her advisor.

“So before again I continue, I wanted to introduce quickly my team from Kenya. So, I’ll start from the back. This is Mike Sagana, he’s one of my team members. He’s a politician and he’s my principal advisor in my team. And this is Jermaine Momanyi, he is the head of trade and investments at the office of the first daughter…” said Charlene.

At this time, the audience could be heard expressing disbelief and clapping before some of them started to laugh.

“…I don’t get what’s funny,” she said in response to the laughter.

In a letter shared on her social media platforms, President Ruto’s second eldest daughter explained that the office is a private entity.

“The Office of the First Daughter is a private entity. It is neither a constitutional office nor is it being funded by Kenyan taxpayers. It runs to purely facilitate the activities and any programs being run by myself,” she explained.

Charlene clarified that the office pursued goals defined by herself that were primarily aimed at the younger generation and was not associated with that of President Ruto.

“The office has engaged various players across the country and beyond in line with some of its objectives of championing youth-based agendas and climate change advocacy,” she said.

She also denied allegations that she has a hidden agenda, including laying the groundwork for a political career, and insisted that everything she was doing was done in good faith.

The first daughter criticized those who were criticizing her and declared that she will use her voice to provide young people with opportunities.
