Confusion as Wiper Reshuffles Kitui County Assembly Leadership

A number of leaders have reacted to the Wiper party’s decision to reshuffle the Kitui assembly leadership after two months.

Wiper had proposed MCA Erastus Mbuno as the deputy majority leader, but he has since been ousted and replaced by Jacqueline Kalenga.

Nimrod Mbai, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kitui East, where the two assembly leaders hail, was not pleased with the Kalonzo Musyoka-led party’s decision.

The lawmaker welcomed the new deputy majority leader and urged her to lead effectively despite his concern that Kalenga replacing Mbuno, who is from the same constituency, would cause sibling rivalry.

“Nominating Hon Mbuno for deputy majority leader was a good gesture, he is young and sharp, and he has a future in politics but removing him within two months and replacing him with his sister the Hon Jaqckline Kalenga is playing a brother against a sister and playing my young siblings against each other,” Mbai wrote on Facebook.

Mbai questioned the party decision, adding that despite the leadership position still being in Kitui East, the party made a mistake by changing the line-up.

“In Kitui East leadership, we are all brothers and sisters and this move by Wiper is not in good taste. It’s okay that the position has remained in Kitui East but what wrong did the young vibrant son of Endau/Malalani commit?” he wondered.

The party is yet to release a statement explaining why the line-up changed only two months after the elections.

According to those privy to the goings-on, the change was occasioned by clashes within the county assembly.

Kitui county assembly speaker Kelvin Kinengo and area governor Julius Malombe are allegedly at odds with Mbuno, hence his ouster.
