Court Denies DCI Access to CCTV Footage of Matiang’i Home Raid

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now seeks to extract CCTV footage of former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s residence.

The police claim to be looking into a robbery case and want the court to give them permission to obtain the CCTV footage from several security firms.

The sleuths have obtained a court order requiring Amsec Security Services to provide them with footage from the evening of February 9.

On Tuesday, they also submitted a fresh application in an effort to compel Bob Morgan Security to provide them with the footage. The court has since declined to grant the orders.

Instead, Magistrate Wandia Nyamu directed the parties to appear in court on March 7 for an interparty hearing before the court can decide if it will grant the orders.

In an application by Chief Inspector Eunice Njue, the DCI requests that the court also order the release of the footage.

“This court be pleaded to issue an order compelling the manager of Bob Morgan Security to allow DCI cyber forensic expert access and extract of CCTV footage for the period February 8 from 6 pm to February 9 midday captured by CCTV installed and controlled by the security firm,” the application reads.

Njue claims that she is looking into a case of attempted robbery after unidentified individuals who claimed to be police officers raided the former minister’s home.

“Preliminary investigations have established that the said residential Karen Ngong view is covered by CCTV cameras manned by Bob Morgan and therefore there is a need to retrieve the same for evidential purposes,” she adds.

The DCI officer said they are concerned that vital evidence may be destroyed if the CCTV footage is not quickly secured, endangering investigations.

The police have also requested the CCTV footage from that night in a letter to the Karen Ngong View Estate Association.
