DCI Kinoti Appeals Against Warrant of Arrest, Accuses Wanjigi of Harassing Him

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) director George Kinoti has moved to the Court of Appeal to block his impending imprisonment.

On Tuesday, a court issued a warrant of arrest against the DCI boss over contempt. He is said to have gone against an order requiring him to return seven firearms belonging to businessman Jimi Wanjigi.

Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai was ordered to effect the order and present Kinoti in court.

Kinoti now wants the court to set aside the order pending hearing and determination of his application as well as suspend the four-month prison sentence.

Further, Kinoti has accused Wanjigi and his wife Irene Nzisa of harassing him.

“I am apprehensive that the continued harassment of myself shall continue not unless the court grants the stay orders sought in my application dated 30th November 2021,” reads court documents.

On November 18, Justice Anthony Mrima sentenced Kinoti to four months behind bars for disregarding orders issued by Justice Chacha Mwita in June 2019.

Kinoti was given seven days to present himself at Kamiti Maximum Prison. The period lapsed on November 26.

But according to the senior detective the guns are in the custody of the Firearms and Licensing Board.
