DP Gachagua Ensured Sakaja Became Governor – Senator Orwoba

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has said that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua fought for Johnson Sakaja to be Nairobi Governor.

According to the lawmaker, it was DP Gachagua who fought to ensure that Sakaja was on the ballot despite claims that he did not have a university degree.

Prior to the August 2022 elections, claims were rife that the former Nairobi senator had forged a university degree from Teams University in Uganda.

It was also revealed that he had not graduated from the University of Nairobi with an Actuarial Science degree.

Senator Orwoba told TV47 on Tuesday that the alleged tiff between Sakaja and the DP was because the latter was trying to ensure that campaign promises are realized.

“My message to governor Sakaja is that he must remember he was on the receiving end of Azimio, it was Gachagua who actually fought left, right and centre to ensure that Sakaja is the governor,” she said.

She added: “However way Sakaja looks at it unless he wants to come out clean and say that he used UDA and after that, he doesn’t care about that. Unless he has something to tell us he must sit his ground and listen.”

Earlier today, Sakaja sought forgiveness from Kenyans over the alleged squabble which he maintained is just a slight misunderstanding.

The county boss who was elected on a UDA ticket, said he respects the deputy president and that the issues playing out in the public will be resolved internally.

“I respect Mr Gachagua as holding senior position in our party…let me not speak too much about this issue…but there are areas we are not agreeing,” Sakaja said.

He added: “there are things that we are supposed to do away from public glare…and I am concerned that these politics of today are introducing me to tribal dimensions, while all along I have never even imagined profiling tribes.”

On Sunday, the DP told Inooro TV that the governor’s directives were meant to negatively impact businesses belonging to Kikuyus.

This the DP said, as he directed PSV operators and bar owners to ignore the governor’s directives.

“Businessmen are not sacks of potatoes to be loaded and unloaded at will…everything must be about consultations. Give them time to soundproof their bars if it is all about noise,” said Gachagua.
