EALA MP Kega Protests Jubilee Party’s Exclusion from Bipartisan Talks

Jubilee Party has expressed displeasure in its exclusion from the bipartisan talks set to kick off today (Wednesday) at the Bomas of Kenya.

In a letter to the committee’s co-chairs, George Murugara (Tharaka) and Otiende Amollo (Rarieda), the Kanini Kega-led faction requested that the discussions be put on hold until Jubilee is represented.

The letter has been addressed to Speakers Moses Wetang’ula (National Assembly) and Amason Kingi (Senate).

“We write to protest the exclusion of Jubilee Party in the proposed membership of your committee,” Kega wrote in the letter dated May 9.

The EALA MP said Jubilee being the third largest political party in the country, should have a seat on the committee.

The former ruling party was previously being represented by Eldas MP Adan Keynan who was removed following protests from the opposition.

“As the third largest political party in Parliament, we strongly protest the exclusion of Jubilee Party in the committee,” he said.

Kega asserts that the proposed committee’s mandate will have significant effects on the electoral processes in which the Jubilee Party is a significant participant.

“We accordingly demand that no further deliberations on the proposed bipartisan process should proceed before our party representation in the process is factored in,” Kega said.

“Please take notice that Jubilee Party will seek legal redress within fourteen days from the date hereof in the event that the proposed bipartisan process proceeds without representation of our party.”

Kenya Kwanza replaced Keynan with Saku MP Dado Raso (UDA).
