Ex-Gatundu North MP Wanjiku Kibe Quits Jubilee Party

Former Gatundu North MP Ann Wanjiku Kibe has left retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party.

The former lawmaker of membership number JP23840, in her resignation letter thanked the former ruling party for according her the chance to serve.

“I’m truly grateful and honoured to have been given an opportunity to serve under this political party and for the support accorded to my political journey,” her resignation letter reads in part.

“I also wish the party leadership and all its membership the very best in their future political endeavors. God bless.”

She stated that it was now time to refocus and repurpose, adding that “we can’t be afraid of change”.

“You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea,” she quoted author C. JoyBell C.

In 2017, Kibe made history by becoming the first female MP for Gatundu North. At the time, she trounced six male contestants including the incumbent, Kung’u Waibara.

She garnered 39,447 votes against Waibara’s 9,314 while Francis Kigo Njenga came in third with 8,124 votes.

Other candidates, among them, former Kiambu County chief of staff Dominic Gicheru received 1,999 votes, Patrick Karigi got 545 votes while John Njenga got 78 votes.

In 2022, however, Kibe lost her bid to retain the seat. She lost to independent candidate Elijah Njoroge alias Kururia.

Mr Kururia garnered 15,224 votes against Kibe’s 12,232 votes.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Kigo came in third with 11,716 votes.

In the August 9 polls, some 16 men had lined up to dislodge her from the seat. Some of them included Kigo, Waibara, Njoroge, Prof Ndung’u Ikenye, Harun Gatarwa, Paul Mugo, Mathew Mukuha, John Mariga, Kihu Mose among others.
