Former MP Aisha Jumwa To Settle Murder Case Out of Court

Public Service Cabinet Secretary nominee Aisha Jumwa and the family of Jola Ngumbao want to settle a murder case out of court.

Ngumbao was fatally shot on October 15, 2019, after chaos broke out at the home of Reuben Katana, a former ODM candidate in the Ganda ward by-election in Kilifi County.

Ms Jumwa is on trial for the murder of Ngumbao alongside her bodyguard Geoffrey Otieno Okuto.

On Tuesday, the prosecution led by Vivian Kambaga told the High Court in Mombasa that Ms Jumwa will be a State witness.

The court heard that the family of the deceased feels that Ms Jumwa was not armed when their kin was shot dead and therefore, she is not a principal offender.

Last week, the DPP withdrew a Sh19 million graft case against the former Kilifi gubernatorial candidate.

The DPP withdrew the case under Section 87 (a) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).

The former legislator and seven others were charged with conspiring to commit fraud by paying Sh19 million to Multiserve contractors in relation to Malindi NG-CDF procurement number MLD/NG-CDF/01/2017/2018.

She was facing charges alongside Wachu Omar, Kennedy Otieno, Bernard Riba, Sophia Saidi, Margaret Kalume, Robert Katana, and Multiserve contractors.

The offense is said to have been committed between May 14 and October 12, 2018, in the Malindi sub-county of Kilifi County.

Additionally, Ms Jumwa was accused of money laundering, acquiring proceeds of crime, and conflict of interest.

The court was further informed that MLD/NG-CDF/01/2017/2018 tender committee members M. Otieno, M. Riba, Ms Saidi, and M. Kalume violated procurement regulations between May 25 and May 29, 2018, in Malindi NG-CDF offices.
