Kiambu Woman Rep Candidate Gladys Chania Arrested Over Spouse’s Death

Kiambu politician Gladys Chania has been arrested over the death of her husband, George Mwangi.

According to the police, the former Kiambu Woman Rep aspirant is the prime suspect in the murder of Mr Mwangi.

The body of the deceased was found on Wednesday in Kieni Forest, Gatundu North Constituency, by casual labourers. His remains were wrapped in a polythene bag and covered under a heap of cartons.

They reported the matter to the area chief who informed the relevant authorities.

Mwangi, an electrical engineer and road contractor based in Kigali, Rwanda, had returned on September 13 and was scheduled to fly out on Tuesday next week.

According to the DCI, the deceased’s wife found out about his extra-marital affair with the secretary of a local school. She has been identified as Lucy Muthoni.

Homicide detectives probing the murder most foul have recovered some of the murder weapons in the master bedroom, the primary scene of crime.

The sleuths have also recovered blood soaked bed sheets, curtains and clothes hidden in a locked room adjacent to the master bedroom.

“Forensic experts based at the Crime Scene Investigations unit have also detected blood splatter patterns on the bedroom walls, wardrobe and along the stairway indicating that the father of three was killed in the house before his body was dumped kilometres away,” said DCI.

Chania is said to have filed a missing persons report on October 11 at 8pm at Mwea Police Post in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, vide OB No. 18/11/10/2022.

Kiambu Police boss Perminus Kioi has refuted Chania’s earlier claim that Mwangi went missing on Sunday after walking downstairs.

According to Mr Kioi, preliminary reports indicated that the victim was killed at their home before being dumped in the forest.

Four more suspects, according to the police chief, are in custody.

She told sleuths that her husband walked downstairs and never returned. She stated that he had not expressed any fear for his life.

“My husband was alive on Sunday morning. He went downstairs and never came back. He did not carry his mobile phone and in the evening when he failed to show up, the next day I reported the matter at Kamwangi police station and later at Mwea police post, which is within my jurisdiction,’’ she said.

Police say the deceased could have been hit with a blunt object on the head and had his face disfigured with acid.
