Gospel Dj Rimshot Joins Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Race

Rimshot Jackson, a well-known gospel DJ, has expressed interest in running for Nairobi County Speaker.

Rimshot, a former DJ and marketing manager at Kass TV, aspires to follow in the footsteps of President William Ruto, who went from being a chicken seller to the head of state.

Rimshot is a motivational speaker with experience in graphic design, video production, and audio engineering. He is also a licensed sales and marketing executive.

The former street kid is among the 13 candidates who have showed interest in the post.

The disk jockey will compete for the position of Speaker of the county against former deputy Speaker Ken Ng’ondi of Azimio and outgoing Speaker Bernard Mutura of Kenya Kwanza, among others.

“In my career, I have been engaged in leadership roles, motivational speaking, marketing, branding, content creation, photo manipulation, and illustrations which have been very pivotal in sharpening my leadership skills, communication, and teamwork which are important in holding leadership positions hence my interest in being the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker,” he said.

Rimshot stated that while working on personal initiatives and, consequently, during his campaign to be a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in the recently held general elections, he was able to strengthen his organizational abilities and sense of drive.

Rimshot vied for the Central ward on an independent ticket but lost to Mwaniki Kwenya of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Nairobi MCAs-elect have faulted Governor Johnson Sakaja for failing to gazette their first sitting. They accused the county boss of delaying service delivery.

“We are really concerned about this delay since no one is telling us what has informed it.  The truth of the matter is that Sakaja is not only punishing MCAs but he is punishing Nairobi residents. Issues like handling pending bills cannot be discharged,” Kileleshwa MCA-elect Robert Alai said.

Makongeni MCA-elect Peter Imwatok, however, noted that the former Nairobi senator promised to gazette the sitting this week.

“The governor has assured us that he will gazette the sitting this week. There are those who are also claiming that the delay is meant to buy MCAs from Azimio to boost Kenya Kwanza quest for the speakers’ seat. This is very far from the truth, Azimio MCAs in Nairobi are revolutionary and you cannot buy them as you wish,” he said.

On his part, Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna urged Sakaja to gazette the sitting as human life is more important than politics.

“We want the governor to know that at times human life is more important than politics. People are suffering because the Assembly needs to be in place for seamless service delivery,” Sifuna stated.

The ODM secretary general added: “Sakaja is playing games because they want to see if they can show their might with numbers. It doesn’t matter how long it will take but Azimio has the majority at the county assembly.”
