Governor Nyoro’s Running Mate Denies Defecting to DP Ruto’s Camp

June Waweru, James Nyoro’s running mate for governor of Kiambu, has refuted as untrue reports that she had defected to Kenya Kwanza from Jubilee Party.

Waweru claimed that their opponents, who have already sensed defeat, are advancing the lies.

“Those are kicks of a dying horse,” she told People Daily.

Waweru defended the polls’ findings that Nyoro would defeat his rivals come August 9, which, according to her, is the reason why their opponents are panicking.

“They all know Nyoro will beat them but to vent their anger, our opponents have resorted to propaganda which to us is not selling and will not change the truth on the ground,” she said.

The aspiring deputy governor emphasized that even in a fantasy, she would not have the courage to join the camp of Deputy President William Ruto, which she described as being full of dishonest people.

“I cannot be in the same assembly with thieves and corrupt men and women. I’m happy in Jubilee and even in a dream, I can never imagine joining Kenya Kwanza,” she stated.

Social media was ablaze with rumors on Saturday that Waweru had abandoned Nyoro after realizing they would not win.

The incumbent will face former governor William Kabogo, Thika Town MP Wainaina Jungle, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria , Mwende Gatabaki, and senator Kimani Wamatangi on the ballot in two days.

A recent poll by Mizani showed that Kabogo enjoys a 34.4 percent approval rating, ahead of Jungle at 30.5 percent.

Kabogo served as the first Kiambu governor between 2013 and 2017 but was defeated by Ferdinand Waititu who would later be impeached on corruption allegations.

Kabogo had initially joined forces with the Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Alliance but bolted out after a fallout with Wamatangi.

In third place was United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Wamatangi, while the fourth and fifth positions were taken by Nyoro and Kuria, respectively.

“The Kiambu County opinion survey was conducted between July 29- July 30,” confirmed Mizani Africa.
