Governor Wamatangi Orders Headcount To Weed Out Ghost Employees

In an effort to identify any ghost workers who might be on the Kiambu County payroll, Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has ordered an urgent headcount of all county employees.

Wamatangi gave orders to all Chief Officers, Directors, and County Executive Members to begin officially documenting their workforce and submit them by the end of the month.

The newly elected county boss stated that the registration process will be carried out to ensure that non-existent employees are deregistered so they may no longer receive pay from the county.

The county pays ghost workers a major portion of the Sh600 million in salaries paid each month, which the new governor regretted since he said that this widespread fraud has been depriving actual workers of higher compensation.

“Every CEC, CO, and director of all departments must submit a list of all workers working under them including the casuals. You must also own the list you will submit so that we get rid of all non-existent workers who have been illegally drawing salaries from the county,” said the former senator.

Addressing county employees from Thika, Juja, Ruiru, Gatundu North and Gatundu South sub-counties, Wamatangi informed them that their jobs are fully safeguarded as long as they professionally carry out their mandates.

He urged that all county employees must henceforth put on a cheerful face while serving Kiambu people seeking services in various departments, in contrast to the past when county officials were criticized for being callous and cruel.

“In every department, I want us to start doing the necessary changes that will ensure better delivery of services. We for instance must introduce a traffic marshals department to put to an end year of crazy traffic in Thika, Juja, Githurai, and Ruiru that has hampered the growth of businesses due to slow movement of goods and services,” he added.

In the meantime, the county chief vowed to wage a fierce battle against cartels and thieves who exist to plunder public money, warning that anyone found liable will be treated ruthlessly.

“If found, no one else will facilitate your jailing other than Kimani Wamatangi. I will do that without any fear, we cannot have a county with a negative image all the time because of corruption. We must prudently use all the resources available to better the lives of our people,” Wamatangi said.

Also pledging to deal with graft head-on is Kisii Governor Simba Arati. Last week, the former Dagoretti North MP exposed salaried Kisii county drivers who cannot drive.
