Gov’t Deregisters Pastor Ezekiel’s Newlife Church

The Registrar of Societies Friday deregistered Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s Newlife Prayer Centre. 

In a gazette notice dated August 3, 2023, five other churches have also been deregistered. 

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12 (1) of the Societies Act, the Registrar of Societies cancels the registration of the societies specified in the first column of the Schedule, with effect from the respective dates specified in the third column of the schedule,” said Registrar of Societies Maria Nyariki.

Goodnews International Ministries had its registration cancelled on May 19, Helicopter of Christ Church on May 19, 2023, while Theophilus Church was cancelled on May 19,  together with Kings Outreach Church.

Helicopter of Christ Church is run by Thomas Wahome while Kings Outreach Church recently broke away Prophet David Owuor’s Healing and Repentance Ministry.

Goodnews International Ministries is led by suspected cult leader Pastor Paul Mackenzie.

Royal Park Home Owners Estate Association in Lang’ata was deregistered on June 19, 2023.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been in support of the revision of the laws governing religious organizations.

Gachagua has in the recent past warned against generalizing censure of clergy and churches in response to the Shakahola fatalities.

“The information being sought by a Taskforce formed by President William Ruto is intended to help streamline the registration and records of the religious groups,” he said.

The DP said that there are some who use the Bible to further their own interests selfish interests.
