“Haroo, Asimio” Tiktoker Joe Nyokabi Meets Martha Karua

Joe Nyokabi, a TikTok comedian, on Friday met with Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance running mate Martha Wangari Karua.

The two took time to recreate the viral video mimicking Karua on the campaign trail.

During her campaign rallies, Karua interacts with the crowd by saying “hallo, Azimio La Umoja”.

In addition to sharing videos and images of Nyokabi and Karua, activist Boniface Mwangi claimed that the comedian was having financial difficulties prior to the encounter but the meeting had changed his life.

“As of this morning, Nyokabi Joe didn’t have a job and had rent arrears. He says he did the harooo TikTok video hoping to get 10 views but to his surprise, it went viral. He didn’t get any pay but his friends thought he had “made it!” Today, his life changed, thanks to Martha Karua,” Mwangi tweeted.

He pointed out that Azimio La Umoja is eager to address problems like unemployment by putting in place regulations and financing that will allow young people to earn a respectable livelihood from their work.

“This morning incoming Deputy President of Kenya Martha Karua met with Nyokabi Joe who made the now famous haroooo video. 

“The Azimio manifesto has an agenda to turn work experience into certification. University of work experience will be certified and you will get a certificate,” the activist added.

Karua on her part thanked the Tiktoker for reminding Kenyans that the coalition party flagbearer Raila Odinga is a patriot.

“Harooooooo! It was a pleasure meeting
@NyokabiJoe, a young creative who is from my home county of Kirinyaga,” said Karua on Twitter.

“Thank you Joe for giving us much-needed laughter and reminding us that indeed,
@RailaOdinga ni msarendo.”

By Thursday, the video had garnered more than 700,000 views on Tiktok and over 300 on Instagram.

The former Justice Minister has been in active politics since 1992, when she ran for Gichugu MP seat.

She was a member of the Cabinet and Parliament until April 6, 2009, when she resigned as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs due to dissatisfaction with the administration of the late President Mwai Kibaki.

Karua unsuccessfully ran for president in 2013 and has been out of active politics for the past ten years.
