Hellen Obado Vows to Support Raila As Governor Obado Campaigns for DP Ruto

Hellen Obado, the wife of Migori Governor Okoth Obado, is supporting Azimio flagbearer Raila Odinga.

Hellen, who went by the name Hellen Adhiambo Odie after being cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), stated she only has one vote, which she will cast for Raila.

“Raila is vying for president, I am vying as a woman representative but he has my vote,” Hellen said.

Hellen who now insists on going by the name Hellen Adhiambo, is vying for the position of woman representative as an independent candidate.

“I will feed those who will support me with plenty of sweet potatoes and porridge,” she said.

“I have been working hard to sell my agenda and win votes.”

“Obado sought voters’ mandate as a governor, but as Hellen I am seeking your votes for the position of woman representative. I have come to you as an individual… as Hellen Adhiambo Odie,” she said.

She will in the August polls face off with nominated MP Denittah Ghati of ODM, businesswoman Fatuma Mohammed and former radio journalists Josephine Sirega (independent) and Lillian Akugo (Jubilee Party).

Meanwhile, her husband who was recently appointed the Kenya Kwanza Nyanza regional coordinator, has chastised the opposing camp for hypocrisy.

Obado accused some Azimio-affiliated lawmakers of organizing a “sanitiser company” in which they cleanse supporters while condemning opponents.

The governor described those in Azimio as “pretenders who preach water while drinking wine”.

“There are a lot of hypocrites on the other side. When they get any slight opportunity to speak on camera they are very fast in pointing fingers and saying that so and so is corrupt yet it is they who thrive on corruption,” Mr Obado said.

“If I am lying, then let them carry a Bible and swear that they are not corrupt.”

The governor accused an ODM member in the county of “stealing relief food, unpacking them and selling them to members of the public at a pocket-friendly price”.

“There is one who has turned relief food into a campaign tool yet he is the same person lecturing others on corruption. They brand others corrupt while they are the most corrupt,” Mr Obado said.

Some ODM officials, led by Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko, chastised the governor a fortnight ago, claiming that he had a bad track record throughout his two terms in office.

They accused Mr Obado of being used to discredit Azimio la Umoja Kenya One presidential candidate Raila, following his open support for Kenya Kwanza presidential contender William Ruto.

“He is a man on a mission to scuttle votes and deny Mr Odinga the presidency when he has failed to deliver services to Migori people all this while,” Mr Ayacko said.

“Thieves are arrested and prosecuted. Raila has been fighting for the well-being of this country. Let not that person who has court cases around him come to accuse us of being corrupt,” the senator said.
