I’d Be Honoured to Deputize Ruto – Waiguru

Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru believes being chosen as Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate in the August elections will be an honor.

Waiguru on Friday said she is qualified to be the country’s second in command and the first female Deputy President.

“I am Honored to host the Kirinyaga County UDA nominees meeting today. Top on our agenda was the team’s unity of purpose as the surest path to victory for our Party leader and Kenya’s 5th President William Ruto and for every UDA nominee in this county on Aug 9th,” said the county chief.

She admitted that the DP has the last say on who will be his running mate, but that they will continue to support him until he ascends to power.

“To be mentioned as a possible running mate is respectable and fulfilling. It’s a sign that I have the credentials to lead at that level. I have received lots of encouragement from members of the party as well as my supporters and am hoping one of us is selected,” she said.

Waiguru asserted that electing a woman as Deputy will change the narrative in Kenyan politics and will help the country achieve gender equality.

A group of church leaders also endorsed Dr Ruto for President, citing his religion and record as a man who fears God and respects their beliefs.

The Federation of Evangelical and Indigenous Churches of Kenya (FEICCK) declared that it is not apolitical because politics “is a very vital topic for any democratic society.”

On the subject of his running mate, the clergy recommended that he picks Waiguru, saying she was best suited for the job.

“We are making a passionate appeal to our presidential candidate to nominate a woman as his running mate. We specifically appeal that he nominates Governor Waiguru,” FEICCK boss Bishop Samuel Njiriri said.

FEICCK’s Secretary and the Executive Director of the Glory Outreach Assembly, Bishop David Thagana, said it was about time Kenya had a woman deputy president.

“The duo will take this country to the next level,” he said.
