Igathe Serves Revellers Drinks As Polls Draw Closer

Polycarp Igathe, Nairobi governor hopeful, has now extended his rather controversial vote-hunting antics to the city’s nightlife.

Igathe, who is running on a Jubilee Party ticket in the August elections, was seen taking orders and delivering beverages to patrons at Quivers Lounge, a renowned entertainment venue on Thika Road, on Friday night.

DJ G-Money, who was performing at the club, used Twitter to showcase Igathe’s latest strategy for luring Nairobi voters.

“Polycarp Igathe was serving drinks last night at Quiver as I was DJing. You actually cannot make this s— up. I’m not even joking,” tweeted G-Money.

Igathe has become the talk of the town in recent weeks as a result of his innovative voter mobilization efforts, which include washing cars, selling boiled eggs and chapatis, and hanging from matatus on various routes throughout the city.

The antics are supposedly in accordance with the first part of the business hotshot turned politician’s campaign strategy, which involves meeting with Nairobi people on a more personal basis.

“People should get used to seeing me because that is how things will be even when I become governor. I will be serving you your menu, not the menu of the chef,” Igathe said last week.

“It all boils down to basic service delivery for the people. This is something that comes out clearly in our manifesto that we will be launching very soon, a manifesto for the people.”

He promised to address the shortage of public schools within the capital as well as look into the welfare of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers.

Once elected in August, he promised teachers to raise their pay and improve their working conditions.

“We must recover grabbed school land in Nairobi in order to improve the state of public schools in Nairobi. We cannot continue with the current state of affairs once I’m elected as Nairobi Governor,” Igathe said.

“We need a state of emergency on the state of public schools in Nairobi.”

Igathe further indicated that if elected, he will ensure that teachers’ welfare is prioritized at City Hall by the Nairobi City County Government.

“Once in office, I will fix the shortage of schools, and infrastructure, deliver security and bursaries and be an ambassador for teachers’ welfare. I will triple the ECDE teacher’s salaries because I want to run a County where employees perform under good working conditions,” he added.

He will battle it out with UDA’s Johnson Sakaja who according to the polls is leading.

The former banker has previously served as Nairobi Deputy Governor under former Governor Mike Sonko before he resigned over differences between him and Sonko.
