Kajiado Senator Mpaayei Dumps DP Ruto For Raila Over Nomination Rigging

In response to what he described as disappointments and injustice, Kajiado Senator Philip Mpaayei has abandoned the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in favor of the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Alliance coalition party.

Kanar Seki, a political novice, defeated the senator who was elected in 2017 on a Jubilee ticket but left the party to join UDA.

On Wednesday, however, Mpaayei, who has been out of the public eye, declared that the UDA primaries were rigged against him and that he cannot stand to be in a coalition or a party with self-centered leaders who do not uphold justice.

“My supporters had warned me that I was going to be rigged out in UDA nominations but I did not listen to them. The reality has now dawned on me. UDA craftily rigged me out and replaced me with a weak candidate who will be floored by Azimio candidate,” he said.

“Kenya Kwanza coalition is a den of political conmanship that does not recognize democracy and the will of the people. The team is an affiliation of selfish people who jeopardize justice and that was manifested through their rigging of the party primaries,” he added.

He vowed to back the Azimio-affiliated candidates, including Raila Odinga and Martha Karua, who are competing for president.

“I have done my due diligence and widely consulted. I now want to say that I have joined the Azimio la Umoja coalition. I officially quit UDA party and I will not support any leader allied to it,” he added.

The legislator was received by governor Joseph Ole Lenku who welcomed his support stating that his entry into the coalition party would energize Raila’s campaign.

“Grateful for the new dawn in Kajiado following the decision by Senator Philip Mpaayei, formerly of the UDA Party, to formally join my political house. Asante Senator Mpaayei kwa kurudi nyumbani! Pamoja Tutashida!” Lenku wrote on Facebook.

In the race for the senate UDA ticket, Samuel Kanar Seki received 44,670 votes ahead of his closest contender, Daniel Tinaai (36,324) and Mpaayei (14,085).

The Kajiado Senator came in the third position.

For the gubernatorial ticket, the results were disputed by Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko who came in the second position with 26,002 votes, while Francis Meja garnered 13,097 votes.

Kajiado South MP Katoo ole Metito beat the three by garnering 72,679 votes.

Ms Tobiko described the Kajiado exercise as disorganized, chaotic, and without credibility.

She asserted that she had enough proof that the elections had been manipulated with the help of some senior UDA party members.

To ensure democracy, the disappointed lawmaker suggested that the process be repeated.
