Karua in Consultation with Members Ahead of Polls as She Joins OKA’s Campaign Trail

The National Rainbow Coalition–Kenya (NARC–Kenya) is in consultation with its members ahead of the August polls, party leader Martha Karua has said.

The “iron lady”, as she is referred to in the world of politics, said she was open to joining a coalition but is currently working on popularizing the party.

“I am open to a coalition after going into consultation with other party leaders and would be announcing my coalition partners sometime in the near future,” said Karua.

She did, however, note that the coalition of choice will be picked by her supporters.

“You must consult the people before solidifying your decision” she added.

This comes as the Kenya National Union (Kanu) party said she would be joining One Kenya Alliance (OKA) leaders for a campaign tour of Kitui.

A poster shared on the party’s social media indicated that Karua would be joining the remaining half of OKA; Gideon Moi and Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, for the Thursday tour.

According to Kanu’s Secretary for Political Affairs Frederick Okango, Karua is an equal partner in the alliance.

Speaking to a local publication, Okango, formerly of Thirdway Alliance, said, “Yes, Karua is a partner in OKA and that is an equal principal in the alliance. She is the party leader of NARC-Kenya. So they are equal partners.”

“OKA was formed before Martha joined – she and Speaker Justin Muturi have come in under the Mount Kenya Unity Forum. Remember the Mt Kenya forum proposed Karua as their spokesperson. OKA is the biggest coalition and many more are going to join,” he added.

Karua joins the duo after Musalia Mudavadi of ANC and Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetangula forged an alliance with deputy President William Ruto on Sunday.

Wetangula and Musalia joined the DP on a charm offensive on Wednesday.
