Khalwale Bows Out of Kakamega Gubernatorial Race, To Back Malala

Boni Khalwale, a former Kakamega senator, has withdrawn from the Kakamega governorship race in favor of Cleophas Malala.

Following the agreement reached at Deputy President William Ruto’s Karen residence, Khalwale will instead go for the area senate seat.

The deal was signed in the presence of ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula.

The bull fighter as he is popularly known said he will seek the county’s senate seat in order to champion for the welfare of the people instead of battling Malala.

“I have not stepped down but rather up, so that I can focus more on the common agenda that covers our people and the rest of Kenyans,” said Khalwale.

“After intensive consultations, soul searching, reading from the script of Michael Kijana Wamalwa & in keeping with my iconic mantra of decisive leadership, I’ve today happily opted to return to National politics leaving Sen Malala to steer Kakamega County as Governor. Thank u all,” tweeted the former senator.

Dr Ruto said he was confident Kenya Kwanza candidates will emerge winners in the upcoming polls.

“We are very clear in our minds that Kakamega is going to be a Kenya Kwanza County,” said Ruto.

“I want to thank these two leaders, especially the honorable Boni Khalwale, and we have agreed that his sacrifice will not go unrewarded.”

The race to succeed Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has attracted contestants among them Malala, Deputy Governor Philip Kutima and former Ketraco CEO Fernandes Barasa.
