Mama Ngina Urges Mt Kenya to Back Raila, Claims Ruto Disrespected Uhuru

Mama Ngina Kenyatta has urged the Mt Kenya area to support ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency.

Mama Ngina, speaking at a burial in Kiambu on Tuesday, said her son, President Uhuru Kenyatta genuinely cares about the community and would never lead them to a ditch.

She added Uhuru is devoted to the region’s future and wants the best for them, which is why he chose Raila as his preferred successor.

“Let us love each other, this is our country, let us drive things forward. Let us know where we are going, there is no way your leader can mislead you. Let me tell you, you must know that the person who is sited under a tree is the one who knows what the insects around there are eating,” said the former first lady.

Mama Ngina also commented on Uhuru’s relationship with his deputy William Ruto.

She claimed the two got along well until the DP abdicated his responsibilities to pursue his presidential dreams.

“He (Uhuru) didn’t have a problem (with Ruto), but if your deputy shows you disrespect, would you really stick there? You will move on,” she added.

She went on to appeal for peace during election campaigns and for leaders to refrain from attacking one another.

The escalating cases of abuse among leaders, according to Mama Ngina, raises questions about their upbringing.

She advised Kenyans to uphold decent morals and oppose abusive leaders.

“If you were not brought up being taught how to abuse others when growing up at home, even when you go to the public, you cannot be able to abuse others. So let me tell those who are going round abusing others, we will leave them alone if that is how they were taught to be abusive when they were growing up.” she said.

While it is unclear why the president and his deputy fell out, the two have continued to attack each other publicly.

Last week, DP Ruto invaded Uhuru’s Kiambu backyard.

In an emotional appeal to his boss, the UDA presidential flagbearer asked him not to frustrate his campaign.

“Mwambie rafiki yangu Uhuru, Ruto amesema hata kama ameamua kuenda kumsaidia mtu was kitendawili (Raila) namuomba kwa unyenyekevu asitumie ile kisu nilimsaidia kupata kunikata miguu,” Ruto said.

“Ata hiyo maombi Mama Ngina Kenyatta alituombea, mmkumbushe ni huyo Ruto asimuumize,” Ruto added.

The president has insisted that Kenya is safe in the former prime minister’s hands.
