Lawyer Miguna Miguna is Back in Kenya

Exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna is back in the country, 1,716 days since he was first deported.

The lawyer landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) aboard a Kenya Airways (KQ) plane, minutes past 6 AM.

The self-proclaimed General was received by his supporters.

“I am extremely happy to be back home. I extend my gratitude to all Kenyans who have stood with me, and with the bill of rights in the constitution. I pay gratitude to the Judiciary that stood firm on the side of the rule of law,” said Miguna.

On Wednesday, Miguna shared photos of official invitations to the Mashujaa Day national celebrations at Uhuru Gardens and later a Garden Party at State House Nairobi.

“From the JKIA to #MashujaaDay. Then to State House Kenya. Patriots are FREE to be at the JKIA,” he tweeted.

On October 12, he revealed that President William Ruto’s government had lifted the Red Alerts imposed against him.

“The Government of William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua has lifted the Red Alerts Uhuru Kenyatta imposed against me. My Arrival: October 20 at 6am,” he wrote.

He was dramatically deported in February 6, 2018 over his participation in the swearing in of former prime minister Raila Odinga as the People’s President in January of the same year.

After his arrest, the General was held incommunicado for five days while being transferred between Kiambu and Kajiado police stations.

He was charged with treason-related offenses before being deported on February 6 despite a court order prohibiting it.

The then Interior Ministry said Miguna was deported because he was not a Kenyan citizen.

“Miguna Miguna, who is not a citizen of Kenya and whose presence in Kenya is contrary to national interest, be removed from Kenya to his country of origin Canada, and further direct that he remain in prison custody while arrangements for removal are being undertaken, and this order is sufficient warrant to keep the said in custody…” the statement read in part.
