Mishra Apologizes For Defying President-elect Ruto

Outgoing Member of Parliament for Kesses Swarup Mishra regrets going against the majority in the Rift Valley, which is controlled by the UDA party.

Mishra, who ran on an independent ticket, was one of the seasoned politicians who lost their seats after defying President-elect William Ruto.

Dr Ruto is the party leader of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) which bagged majority of the seats in the vote-rich Rift Valley region.

Mishra, known for his philanthropic nature, lost his seat to Julius Ruto, the immediate former Uasin Gishu county Finance CEC.

The politician’s downfall has been related to his dispute with Dr Ruto and his relationship with Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Alliance coalition.

Raila was running against Dr Ruto in the just concluded general elections.

After the Supreme Court upheld Dr Ruto’s victory, Mishra apologized to the Kalenjin community for making what he considered to be poor political choices.

“I humbly request my community to forgive me for the wrong decision I took. Sometimes wrong decisions happen because of a lack of wisdom,” said the former legislator.

“It’s good that when you realise, you reconcile and ensure that does not happen in the future,” Mishra said on Tuesday.

The former MP expressed faith in Dr Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua’s capabilities to lead the country to prosperity.

“His Excellency, I am fully aware of the immensity of the task that lies before you and I am confident that under your guidance and leadership, Kenya will pursue effective ways to address the challenges our country is facing. I am also confident that under your stewardship Kenya will defy all odds to become Africa’s bell-weather and an economic powerhouse,” he said.

“As you assume office, please be assured of our prayers for your presidency, your family and the Kenya Kwanza government; And by the grace of God, we shall enjoy the fruits of an empowered and blessed.

Mishra was floored by the newbie who garnered 32,839 votes against his 21,404 votes.

Mishra made history in 2017 by being the first person of Asian origin to be elected MP in a Kalenjin dominated region.

He beat incumbent James Bett on a Jubilee Party ticket.
