MP Arama Brandishes Gun in Nakuru, Asks Protesters to Disperse

Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was on Wednesday armed to wade off anti-government protesters in Nakuru.

In a video doing rounds on the internet, Arama who was brandishing a pistol asked the protesters to disperse.

He told the crowd forming in town that he voted for Azimio leader Raila Odinga but he lost to President William Ruto.

“Kwani hatukupigia Raila Kura? Si hata mimi nilimpigia akashindwa na William Ruto alafu unakuja kutuambia upuzi hapa,” Arama says.

Arama was re-elected on an ODM ticket but has since pledged support for President Ruto.

Earlier, police engaged youth from Shabaab area in running battles as they protested against the high cost of living.

The protesters had lit bonfires on the roads.

Reports indicate that five people have been shot in Migori and Nairobi.

Businesses remained closed in major towns across the country as the government ordered closure of day schools in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.

In a joint statement on Tuesday, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and Interior’s Kithure Kindiki said security intelligence had indicated that criminal elements were planning to unleash terror and violence on the public during the protests.

“As a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of school children, it has been decided that all day primary and secondary schools within Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu cities shall remain closed tomorrow,” said the CSs.

“The Ministry of Education shall announce the resumption of learning in the aforementioned schools upon assessment of the security situation in the course of tomorrow.”
