Mudavadi Asks Voters To reject UDA Candidates in Western Kenya (Video)

Musalia Mudavadi, the leader of the Amani National Congress (ANC), has alarmed the Kenya Kwanza Alliance after he was caught on camera ranting about Deputy President William Ruto and his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Mudavadi was heard lamenting at a night rally in his Sabatia backyard that UDA was fielding candidates in his home turf yet his party had avoided areas presumed to be strongholds of other Kenya Kwanza principals.

In his native Luhya language, the former Deputy Prime Minister warned the people that during the August 9 General Election, Sugoi electorates will undoubtedly choose a member of Parliament and a member of the County Assembly affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Mudavadi was heard cautioning his supporters against disgracing him by voting for UDA candidates in Vihiga county.

“Let me ask you this since we are in a coalition with Ruto, we are all at the top of the government. But let me ask you, are the people from Sugoi going to elect a Member of Parliament from ANC?” he posed.

Mudavadi, who was greeted with applause by the crowd, asked people to vote for politicians from his ANC Party.

“Let us just tell each other the truth. Will they elect someone from UDA? Because as much as we have united here at the top where we are making the government, but an MP for Ruto is going to come from UDA, his home MCA will come from UDA. Then why would you decide to deny me an opportunity to be represented by an ANC lawmaker?” he wondered.

His remarks came only days after Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala accused the UDA of hindering the ANC and Ford Kenya’s efforts to win 70% of Western Kenya’s votes.

Malala and other leaders asked that UDA candidate Clement Siloya, who had expressed interest in succeeding Alfred Agoi as MP for Sabatia, drop his candidacy. Agoi, a member of ANC, had expressed interest in the governorship of Vihiga.

The Kakamega gubernatorial candidate urged Ruto to show good faith by withdrawing the UDA candidates and reserving the MP seat for ANC.

They said that the alliance was formed to foster political relations and even improve ties between the two parties.

“We have already given UDA the top two positions. But please, Mheshimiwa Ruto, do not interfere with our bedroom because these seats mean a lot to us,” said Malala.

“Let us respect each other because, after the election, Ruto will stand aside with his numbers and so will Mudavadi. We do not want them to start saying they will not give us our share of the government because we failed to get 70 per cent in Western. We cannot get that 70 per cent if we do not have our own MPs,” the Senator added.

The Kenya Kwanza alliance was formed as part of a pact between Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya.

If the Deputy President wins the presidential elections in August 2022, Mudavadi will apparently get the chief cabinet secretary slot.

Furthermore, if Mudavadi and Wetangula deliver 70 percent of the votes in Western Kenya to Ruto, they will receive 30 percent of all cabinet posts.

Even though he chose to defend his Bungoma Senate seat, Wetangula has been promised the position of National Assembly Speaker.

“Many have asked why I’m defending my seat despite getting a 30% in the Kenya Kwanza government, I am not looking for personal gain the shares we have gotten in the Kenya Kwanza agreement will be distributed in the government,” he said.

“The 30 percent we have shared as the Mulembe Nation in Kenya Kwanza government is intact. We shall have 22 ministers in Kenya Kwanza where Ford Kenya shall have three cabinet secretaries and ANC another 3 cabinet secretaries, including permanent secretaries, ambassadors and many other senior government positions.”
