Muslim MCAs Reject Governor Sakaja’s List of Cabinet Nominees

The names of the CEC nominees, according to a section of Members of the Nairobi County Assembly, did not accurately reflect the county’s image.

California MCA Hashim Kamau, Eastleigh North MCA Dabar Ahmed, and Eastleigh Airbase MCA Fuad on Thursday rejected the names of the nominees before their vetting.

The Ward Reps aired their grievances in a joint press statement with the Muslim Community in Nairobi.

According to Hashima, Sakaja’s team of CECs does not reflect gender equality, and diversity was not taken into account.

“I urge the assembly not to approve the names of the nominees. I will seek the support of the MCAs not to approve Sakaja’s CECs because the committee do not have gender balance and the county cultural diversity,” Hashima said.

Additionally, they claimed that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, the majority party, was favored by the governor.

Committee chair for Jamia Mosque Hussein Abdinassir warned that the Muslim Community would take the governor to court if he did not immediately rescind the names sent to the county assembly.

“We urge MCAs in Nairobi County to unanimously reject the list of the nominees until it reflects the full face of Kenya. We will go to court to seek legal address through our lawyers,” Mr Abdinassir said.

“We promised to deliver a city of order and that entails having a good team that is competent and compassionate. I shall forward the names to the Nairobi County Assembly this afternoon for approval,” Sakaja said.
