Member of County Assembly for Ngara Chege Mwaura wants the Registrar of Political Parties to determine the majority and minority parties in the Nairobi County Assembly.
As the house gets ready to begin plenary sessions next week, the legislator has requested that the speaker identify five major concerns in a letter to Ann Nderitu, the registrar of political parties.
The lawmaker wants Ms Nderitu to determine which party controls the House, in accordance with the Political Parties Act.
“ I hereby wish to request your urgent intervention and help in determining the following; the definition of a coalition of parties and a coalition party,” reads the letter dated October 4.

Chege wants to know the true position of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Jubilee, and Wiper parties, affiliates of the Azimio One Kenya Alliance Alliance coalition party, and what they ought to be regarded as in the assembly.
He also wants the RPP to ascertain the stance of the parties that make up the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.
The MCA also wants to know how the dissolution of Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) has affected the strength of UDA in the assembly.
Moses Kuria, the cabinet nominee for trade and industry, began the formal process of fusing his CCK party with UDA after being nominated to the cabinet last month.

The letter was copied to Ken Ng’ondi, the county assembly speaker, and Veronica Maina, the UDA secretary general.
In terms of elected members; UDA has 35 MCAs, ODM has 35, Jubilee (6), Wiper (4), CCK has one and three are Independent MCAs.
President William Ruto-led UDA party and Raila Odinga’s ODM each have 17 nominated MCAs.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee has three nominated MCAs and Wiper has two.

In total, ODM and UDA have 52 MCAs each, Jubilee has 9 Wiper has 6 and CCK has one MCA.
Already, UDA and Azimio have revealed their Assembly leadership with both claiming to be the majority.
UDA named Waithaka MCA Antony Kirangu as the Majority leader and South B MCA Waithera Chege, as his deputy.
Umoja One MCA Mark Mugambi will be the Majority Whip and will be deputized by Nominated MCA Joyce Muthoni.

Azimio named Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok as the majority leader and Laini Saba MCA John Musila as his deputy.
Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto will serve as the Majority whip and will be deputised by Upper Savannah MCA Elijah Stazo.
However, the list of Azimio leadership in the House has since been rescinded.
