Ngirici Takes On Speaker Muturi After He Blasted Her For Underperforming in Parliament

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici is not backing down from a fight, not even with the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi.

Ngirici took on the speaker who belongs to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance after he claimed she was incapable of leading the county.

The County MP is seeking to unseat the incumbent, Governor Anne Waiguru in August.

Taking to social media, the lawmaker urged Muturi to stay away from a woman’s fight.

“Hon Muturi must know that speaking in the base in a political rally carries some weight and resonates well with the people. Let your voice not confuse you to join a competition between two women,” she said.

The Democratic Party leader on Saturday wondered how Ngirici would lead a county yet she had performed dismally as a Woman Rep.

“Mimi kama prefect wa hawa wabunge sikuona huyu anaongea. Hakuifanya kazi yeyote huko bunge. Hata mkimchagua awe governor ni kulala tu,” said Muturi.

Loosely translates to: “As their prefect in Parliament, she did not do much. Even if you elect her as governor, all she’ll do is sleep.”

The Speaker also urged Kirinyaga people to vote for competent leaders with capacity to uplift their living standards.

Embu governor candidate Cecily Mbarire also drummed up support for Waiguru who will also be facing off with Senator Charles Kibiru.

Mr Kibiru who is running on a Jubilee ticket has picked Waiguru’s deputy, Peter Ndambiri.

Last week, the former Devolution Cabinet Secretary claimed Ngirici’s candidacy is sponsored by the government.

She also alleged that her arch-rival was a member of the Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party.

The governor claimed that comments made by the vice chairman of the Jubilee Party, David Murathe, claiming that the coalition has two candidates in Kirinyaga, Senator Kibiru and Ngirici, were a blatant indicator that the woman representative is a member of Raila’s outfit.

In March, speculations were rife that Ngirici had joined the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led party.

It was also alleged that she had received a Sh50 million payoff to join the party.

Ngirici had been a part of DP William Ruto’s UDA but changed tune in December last year.

The legislator alleged mistreatment and bullying by high ranking party members.

At some point, the County MP accused the party of asking her to step down in favour of Waiguru.

They apparently asked her to vie for the Mwea Parliamentary seat, an offer she declined.
