Nyeri Governor Kahiga Using TikTok for Direct Interaction with Locals

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has revolutionized the use of the short-form video hosting application, TikTok.

The second-term governor on Monday was live on the application where he engaged locals on issues affecting them.

Kahiga said the aim of the live interaction was so as to expedite the issues affecting the electorate. During the live, the governor would immediately raise the particular issue with the respective CEC.

He stated that the one-on-one interaction with the people leads to very “informative discussions”.

“I discovered that there is a new awakening and appreciation of Tiktok. One is able to engage one on one with many people. We have had very informative discussions on TikTok live,” he said.

On most occasions, he said, the people engage him on genuine issues such as lack of employment, county government operations and the Kenya Kwanza government.

“Some Nyeri residents have brought many concerns to my attention on TikTok which at times I am able to solve their problems right there by engaging third parties,” he said.

The governor who enjoys a following of 41.2k also stated that he is mostly on the app going through the comment section or sharing his own videos.

He also noted that the app is a welcome distraction from his busy life especially now that he is pursuing a Ph.D.

“I am studying for my PhD and sometimes TikTok becomes a nice break from the vast reading,” he added.

According to the politician, the platform if used correctly, can be used to communicate one’s agenda.

“This is an audience one can influence through the messages and videos one posts… it is a media platform that can be used effectively to communicate one’s agenda,” he said.
